Giving Back to the Community

At Hair Traders we like to do our bit to support charities that add to the quality of everyones lives.

We believe that we are fortunate to live in a country that has much to offer everyone and with that comes a responsibility to support those less fortunate than ourselves.

Recent efforts have included supporting the breast cancer foundation through a 'Girls Night In' function held at Toshiba's head office in North Ryde, Tim (Hair Traders's owner) participating in the 100 kilometre Oxfam Trailwalker, raising money for the Victorian bush fire victims and supporting head office staff at Konica Minolta with Shave for a Cure.

Oxfam Trailwalker

OXFAM.jpg image by Xx_spanish_Vee_xXOn August 29th 2008 Tim and a team of 3 other guys set out on the Oxfam Trailwalker. This is Oxfam's major fundraiser and consists of teams of 4 competing in a 100 kilometre walk. The walk went from Hawsbury River to Cremorne and we were given 48 hours to complete it. We managed to finish in 28 hours and 6 minutes going non stop except for 10-15 minute breaks at each checkpoint.

If you're ever considering doing it here is a brief description of what it is like... "The Tools completed Trailwalker today and heres a very brief description of what its like to do Trailwalker. Walk up and down lots of hills, stairs, rocks and slippery stuff and day then do it again in complete darkness. Keep walking until you find out that your tougher than you knew, then keep walking more till you have walked 100k's."

By the time we got to the end we had raised $6,233.00 for Oxfam. All up the efforts of all the Trailwalkers (504 teams in all) raised over $2 million.
Rembering Andy: Sadly Andy died last year (2009) after battling liver cancer. His assistance in our Oxfam Challenge was greatly appreciated and we miss his presence. Whilst his funeral was a really sad occasion it was at the same time a celebration of someone who was a great son, husband, father and friend.

2010
